A search over the week-end of Sunday March 15, 2009 for Michael Doane who has been missing since his car was found 1/29/09 at the Desert National Wildlife Range in Northern Clark County has turned up no new leads.

With 20 searchers on Horse back and 10 on foot the search took place 31 mile into the desert with family, friend and volunteers from the Horse councils of Nevada

The case will remain open and the area will be visited from time to time.

He was depressed over being unemployeed and the verbal altercation he had with his girlfriend. He was last seen wearing BLUE JEANS, YELLOW JACKET and BLACK SHOES. His vehicle was located yesterday, January 30th, 40 MILES EAST OF 95& LEE CANYON ROAD.

Reaching Out to the Families of the Missing

A missing person is indeed the greatest tragedy at the individual family level. It's just hidden in the masses of others unaffected. If a entire city experienced the situation simultaneously -- imagine the impact on the entire nation.

Even in a small city like my hometown of Livingston, Tennessee. If each family were to feel the loss at the personal level at the same time -- imagine the magnitude of the event. Without the shared experience of the tragedy it becomes lost in the shuffle of day to day events.

That's why it is so important to make the resource of www.NamUs.gov known to the public. It is a tool you can use at the family level.

The Missing Persons Database contains information that can be entered by anyone. Before a missing persons case will appear on this Web site, however, it will be validated. The site also provides links to state clearinghouses, medical examiners and coroners, victim assistance groups and pertinent legislation. There's over 100,000 known missing persons in the USA.

The Unidentified Decedents Database contains information entered by medical examiners and coroners. Anyone can search the database using characteristics such as sex, race, distinct body features and dental information. There are up to 50,000 cases of unidentified remains in the USA.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) is the first national repository for missing persons and unidentified decedent records. Unidentified decedents are people who have died and whose bodies have not been identified.

NamUs consists of two databases that anyone can search. The Justice Department hopes that law enforcement officials and the public will use the databases to share information to solve cases.

All users are on the same page, the same core data. But law enforcement users have a more intense level of access to information not available to the public. So the system can be used as an investigative and communication tool.

We encourage law enforcement to register for access to the system as soon as possible.

Nevada Center for Missing Loved Ones is happy to bring you this exacting news from UNTCHI about a great new tool for searching and linking missing people to unidentified remains.

At the request of George Adams, program manager at the University N. Texas Center for Human Identification, (UNTCHI) I am doing an informational campaign about the launching of NamUs. http://namus.gov/ to law enforcement, coroners and the public here in Nevada.
NamUs is made up of two databases: (1) records of unidentified decedents and (2) missing persons reports. Currently, the unidentified decedent’s database is searchable and available for medical examiners and coroners to upload their cases. The search capability of the missing persons database is in development; the site currently provides resources on State clearinghouses, medical examiners and coroners, law enforcement, victim assistance resources, and legislation.

In 2009, the two databases will be linked. Families, law enforcement agencies, medical examiners and coroners, victim advocates, and the general public will be able to search for matches between missing persons and unidentified decedent records. It is going to be an invaluable tool for identification of unidentified human remains.

DNA Reference Kits

The University of North Texas Health Science Center—funded by the National Institute of Justice—developed two standardized collection kits. One kit provides a safe, effective, noninvasive means for obtaining the appropriate family reference samples. A second kit provides for the collection, transportation, and storage of human remains samples. These kits were developed in conjunction with groups such as the FBI Laboratory, the National Association of Medical Examiners, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the National Center for Missing Adults.

As a result of these DNA reference kits, Nevada Center for Missing Loved Ones can now help families process their loved ones DNA and work to determine if they are a match to located unidentified remains.

October is National Crime Prevention Month and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is hosting a crime prevention community safety fair for Las Vegas valley residents and business owners.

The Celebration of Safe Communities initiative is a mission of the National Crime Prevention Council. This event is designed to kick off Crime Prevention month by promoting successful initiatives with local law enforcement and community partnerships.

This informational fair will focus on children, families, senior citizens and businesses crime prevention safety. NCMLO Reports their First Annual Charity Golf Tourney was a huge success!

Our first charity golf outing was held on August 15, 2008 with huge success. Promptly at 7PM the event commenced with enjoyment of appetizers and a raffle with over 25 prizes.

We had 57 golfers teeing off. First place went to a team sponsored by Classics Landscape. Second Place went to a team sponsored by Silver Lining Construction. Third place went to a team of four friends from Henderson. Closest to the pin went to a team sponsored by Aquatics Creation. A great time was had by all who attended.

We would like to thank all the sponsors, all those who played, and all those who volunteered. We would like to give a special thanks to all members of the golf committee.

The Bone Whisperer

His name is Tom McNamara. He is retired NYPD who has settled here in greater Las Vegas. For his retirement he’s volunteered his time to NCMLO.

Frank Mahoney and others respectfully refer to him as THE BONE WHISPERER. Why? When searching the bone’s simply call Tom. He can find them in the oddest locations, buried under brush, and basically unseen by everyone else. Not Tom. Tom has a sixth sense that allows him to find Nevada’s missing loved ones.

When the family member returned at 2:00pm Opal was gone. Her vehicle was still at the residence and nothing but her purse was missing. Opal does have a medical condition.

Memorial services scheduled for M. Sutton

M. Sutton was last seen on March 2, 2007. It was reported that she was with her boyfriend at the time of disappearance. The two apparently argued. “She left on foot and the last thing her boyfriend heard was splashing in the water. He stayed at the wash to look for her and left the area around 6:00am when a friend picked him up.” The police, family and volunteer searched for Melanie in both the wash and through the desert.

On March 13, 2008, volunteers from the Nevada Center for Missing Loved Ones found M. Sutton in a wash near Hollywood and Pabco roads.

The family will be holding a memorial service for M. Sutton on Saturday, June 21, 2008.

NCMLO sends its deepest sympathies to the Sutton family. May their loved one now rest in peace!

The daughters of D. Smith were especially grateful for Frank Mahoney and NEVADA CENTER FOR MISSING LOVED ONES. D. Smith kept a “very predictable schedule,” according to her daughter. When the daughter attempted to reach her mother and was unable to she grew concerned. Unfortunately, the police were limited in the assistance they could provide under these circumstances; this is when they were given NEVADA CENTER FOR MISSING LOVED ONES number. Frank Mahoney was not only able to immediately put a search party in place; he comforted the family throughout the entire ordeal. During another night of searching for Ms. Smith, she herself reached out by phone to her daughter. She was a bit confused and uncertain of her whereabouts. While she and the daughter spoke, Frank sprung into action with only a brief description of the surroundings he immediately knew where to locate her. Frank brought her home. Her daughters were so grateful and appreciative they nominated NCMLO for the Southern Nevada Heroes Award.

The selection committee said that NEVADA CENTER FOR MISSING LOVED ONES was nominated twice. Specifically, they were impressed by the “selflessness and commitment to helping others” provided by NCMLO.

On March 26, 2008 NEVADA CENTER FOR MISSING LOVED ONES celebrated its one year anniversary. Frank Mahoney established NCMLO in 2007 to bridge the gap between the time someone goes missing and the unwritten 48 hour wait period that people believe the police need. Additionally, they are there to keep the search going weeks and months later when the police have to redirect their efforts elsewhere. NCMLO is not a replacement for law enforcement, instead they are more of a support system to aide the police and families finding missing individuals. While NCMLO will help search for anyone, their efforts are more geared towards individuals over 18 years of age. NCMLO is pleased to report that they have helped law enforcement in locating 102 missing individuals over the past year.

A Father’s plea – Trevor Morse missing local from Las Vegas , NV since May 6, 2007.

Las Vegas, NV, May 2008 -- All over the nation good people going about their normal days go missing…vanish. It does not matter if it's a major metropolitan area or small town. People of all ages and all walks of life go missing. Most of the time we only hear about the missing children, teenagers or mothers as they are the ones that media deems as newsworthy. Just in Las Vegas there have been several instances within the last year of women missing from around Las Vegas and Henderson NV , but there have also been adult men missing that the public never hears about. Unfortunately some of the missing were not found alive and others have never been found. I am not demeaning or otherwise diminishing the worry, heartbreak and concern of the families of the missing children, teenagers or mothers, but when it is an adult man no-one notices or cares! Missing adult men are the least concern of law enforcement.

I am the father of a missing adult male. My son, Trevor Morse, relocated to Las Vegas NV in 2006 to work as an electrician for a major contractor. To say a little about Trevor Morse, and affirm who he was, and our prayers and hopes are he still is, Trevor was born and welcomed into our loving family in El Paso , Texas on the 20th of October 1976. Trevor attended Irvin High School in El Paso and graduated in 1996. In 1999 he proudly completed his State of Texas Journeyman ’s requirements and started on a career that took him to many states to work. These locations included Texas , New Mexico , Arizona , and Nevada . It was in Nevada where he disappeared on Sunday, May 6, 2007, from the affluent, upscale neighborhood located on the west side of Las Vegas , NV .

The circumstances of his disappearance are baffling to say the least. What follows is a short recap of Trevor's action on the day before he disappeared (Saturday, May 5, 2007) and on the day he did go missing (Sunday, May 6, 2007). On that Saturday, Trevor watched a televised fight with friends at their house and asked his friends to pick up sun glasses at the swap meet that they would be attending. He later met other friends at a night club for a couple beers and then retired home around midnight. On Sunday, the day of the disappearance, evidence shows Trevor writing checks for bills, doing laundry, going about life as normal. At about 3:00 p.m. on May 6, 2007 a call was made from his cell phone to a taxi service; with the taxi supposedly picking him up and then dropping that person off in the Red Rock Canyon area at a popular furniture store. No-one has seen or heard from him since; not family, not friends nor his employer.

Few can ever know what the family and friends are faced with when their loved one disappears. I can't even explain accurately what we all have endured and continue to endure on a daily basis since Trevor’s disappearance. To make matters worse in the midst of this emotional upheaval, this emotional rollercoaster, we also have to endure what we perceive to be lack of cooperation by the very public officials that we put our trust in to find answers for us, to find Trevor for us. Phone calls, letters and emails are not answered by those very people we sought out and put our faith in to find our missing loved one. How can these public officials not keep the family in the loop, keep us simply updated? But, through this lack of communication with these officials, who rightfully should be the ones helping us, there are gratefully those that come to our support. I would like to acknowledge and send tender and special thanks to the organizations and friends that performed searches, posted fliers, and continue to check up on us, even now one year later, to make sure we are okay and who let us know that Trevor's case will never be out of their minds until answers come forth.

We, Trevor’s parents, and his family and friends are asking the media and the public to please help us find answers. Help us find Trevor.

NCMLO FOUNDERS INVOLVEMENT WITH SHAWN HORNBECK:

In 2002, Frank Mahoney (founder of NEVADA CENTER FOR MISSING LOVED ONES) was one of the law enforcement investigators who worked with Missouri law enforcement in the search for Shawn Hornbeck. Frank had the opportunity to meet and work with the family weeks following Shawn’s disappearance.

Unfortunately, after months of searching for Shawn the likelihood of finding him was dimming. Shawn became a cold case.

After Shawn’s was found alive in 2007 Frank was interviewed by local papers as a local law enforcement officer with a personal connection to this case. This was just one of the many cases that Frank was privileged to serve as an investigator with a team of other amazing law enforcement professionals.
